Holly Roberts earned an M.F.A. from Arizona State University, Tempe, in 1981. Her work is nationally and internationally exhibited and has been published in three monographs. She has twice received National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. In January of 2018 her work will be shown in a one person mini-retrospective at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA, called 33 Years.
Roberts works abstractly first, painting on a panel before applying her signature photographic elements. She uses paint and her own photographs to create images that are filled with humor, irony and mythology. Her metamorphic beings illustrate archetypal emotional or dream states, although her subject matter has expanded from the internal to a wider worldview, touching on religion, technology and the environment.
